Book Updates and More FREE Books!
in which there IS a preorder and NOT a major life catastrophe 😲🥳
Hello, my awesome weirdos! 👐 Welcome to all the new folks – somehow my list has grown a lot since my last newsletter, which is very exciting and makes me very grateful. I’d love to get to know you all better, so if you want to reply to this email and tell me your favorite book trope and genre, I’d love to hear from you. Talking to readers is one of my absolute favorite things!
If you downloaded Tether very recently you might get two emails from me this week, but usually unless it’s close to a launch day you won’t get more than one a week, max. Today I have some writing and reading updates and recommendations for you, as well as links to a TON of free books (again) from a new author collab. Details on that are at the bottom of this email or here if you just want to skip to ALL THE BOOKS!
Speaking of Tether, if you DID download and read it recently, I would love you forever if you'd leave a review either on GoodReads or on Storygraph! Reviews help authors SO MUCH by increasing visibility. Just adding it to your TBR helps too!
Rupture Update!
Rupture is currently with my editor and on track for a much earlier – probably June – release! It is also FINALLY on Amazon for pre-order (as well as all the other major retailers). The pre-order release date is still August 31, but once I’m sure of this next round of edits I’ll update it. Aaahh! I’m so excited to continue Jaelle’s story. You don’t have to have read Tether to dive into Rupture, either – though I think you’ll enjoy it even more if you do. 😉 You could also read Tether after, and enjoy seeing the younger versions of the same characters you’ve come to love (because obviously you’re going to love them in all their messy, imperfect, broken glory).
I haven’t been on social media as much as usual lately because I’ve been absolutely SUNK in the writing of the Rising of the Stars prequel novellas – of which Tether is #0.1 and Rupture is #1. I’m in love with these characters, I’m in love with this world, and I feel like even more than writing the full-length novels, these characters are telling me their stories. It feels like they’re standing over my shoulder and sometimes even showing me the movie-version of things in my head. The outline for #2 is done and the outline for #3 is well underway. Title reveal(s?) coming soon. 😄
What I've Been Reading
April was an ok-ish reading month for me. I didn’t read as much as in March, because I was so hyper-focused on the writing! Not a bad thing, it just means I didn’t get to as many books, and of the ones I did finish – I have three others started – four of five were audiobooks! Apparently it was Ice Planet Barbarians month…which I didn’t realize until I went to grab the graphic for this newsletter. Hah!
And here’s what I have started! I’ve really been enjoying exploring new-to-me indie authors this year. Of course it’s just good reading, but it’s also super interesting to me to see how they’ve built their book worlds and reading communities. Also yes, I’m reading about chickens, because I’m currently hatching out my first ever chicks and I need to know all the things. 🐥🐥🐥
Free Fantasy and Sci-fi Books!
I’m participating in this awesome indie collab featuring almost 200 free books! There are even some box sets in there. 👀So many books, so little time. 😁 There is a HUGE variety in the sub-genres here, including hard-boiled sci-fi, epic fantasy, urban fantasy, and on down into the micro-genres. And all free, so if you’ve been wanting to branch out, now is the time! Below are just a few of the titles listed.
Life Updates
Is anyone (that isn't my partner or my brother) still reading this? 😂 If so you have my eternal affection. 💚 Thankfully, April held no more life catastrophes (unlike the first three months of the year)! I’m still braced but hopeful, and I’m trying really hard to find balance between my writing and my real job (the one that currently pays the bills) AND not letting my physical or mental health burn out. Balance is HARD, y’all, no matter what exactly it is you’re trying to balance. For me some kind of outdoor/physical exercise is absolutely key to keeping my head clear. Just another form of chasing the dopamine, I think – but often taking the time for that makes me feel like I’m not making as much progress on writing as I should! But if I don’t…the brain goblins start to eat at me and I sink into this whirlpool of negativity. So I’m going to leave you with a couple of pics from my outdoor adventures/projects, and of course a cute doggo pic.
Happy reading, and keep it weird!
